I haven't posted in a while, as I've been truly swamped. I've still got a few more weeks of this ultra-busy schedule, but I wanted to pop in and share a couple of items for blog readers.
EVENT: One is an upcoming event on March 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Oakland, CA. It's a FREE Fertility Workshop!! Get all kinds of valuable tips, from acupuncture to nutrition, to increase chances of conception naturally--all from experienced professionals in the Bay Area. I will also be on hand, signing books (our book is The Fertile Kitchen Cookbook: Simple Recipes for Optimizing Your Fertility). You can learn more and register for this free event by clicking here.
SUCCESS STORIES: The second item I wanted to share is one of our beautiful success stories!! (We will be posting these on our website or Facebook fan page soon.) I get so excited when I receive one of these emails, I literally jump out of my chair with joy. This is the whole reason my husband and I wrote our book: to help others get the results we got.
Here is Nicole McKay's story, from November, 2010:
"I found your book a few months ago and could not wait for it to arrive. In conjunction with my naturopath we decided to eliminate sugar, wheat and dairy from my diet. I had two ectopic pregnancies, having lost one tube and was not ready to lose the other. I began this new way of eating in May/June of 2010. Your book gave us a few ideas to get started and myself and my husband are avid foodies so it was easy for us to come up with ideas to eat and change recipes. I was also doing weekly acupuncture, and trying to meditate as often as possible. I am now 6 weeks pregnant and we had an early ultrasound yesterday that showed the baby in the uterus and we even detected fetal heart tones - wonderful news! Thank you for having done that research and sharing it with us!"
What makes her good news even more rewarding is that Nicole is a doula. She works with pregnant mom's all the time. So how wonderful for her to become a mom herself.
If you have started the fertility diet, along with other healing modalities, and have become pregnant too, we want to hear from you! Please let us know! Others who continue to struggle with fertility will find your success inspirational. I know during my journey I was deeply inspired by others who used natural means of optimizing their fertility and succeeded--others like Julia Indichova, author of Inconceivable.
I too am deeply inspired, every time I hear a story like this.
I'll be back soon, with some fertility diet tips or a recipe.

Most inspiring indeed - I am so happy for Nicole (and everybody else) who have had success getting pregnant following the advice in your book.
I know that some people sniff at successfully taking matters into your own hands like this (without peer-reviewed clinical trials!), but these people should remind themselves that there is still a disturbingly high percentage that our best doctors and scientist consider cases of "unexplained" infertility.
Therefore various "alternative" approaches, such as your book, are most welcome additions.
Best regards,
Mike
So true. Thanks, Mike!
Thanks for helping people make positive changes with their diet.
Diet is critically important to your health and your fertility. What I see missing most often is an understanding of the importance of the fat-soluble vitamins, especially vitamins A and D. These are found only in animal products. The next step is to understand the difference between commercial pasteurized dairy and feed-lot meat versus food from healthy animals raised on grass.
Thanks, Veronica! I also encourage people to eat meat organic and lean. And grass-fed cows are definitely a better choice!
Hi, I started the Fertile Kitchen diet last week and already I can see a change in my energy levels. This morning we had spelt blueberry pancakes (and we measured our maple syrup too :).
QUESTION -- The book says to use "rock salt" instead of sea salt. I can only find "ice cream salt" which some folks say is not edible due to the chemical processing and impurities. I tend to think they may be have a point, since the Morton ice cream rock salt I purchased does not have an "ingredients" list on the box. What brands of rock salt can we use that are food-grade and contain the iodine as mentioned in the book?
Thanks for your help!
Hi, Amy B. I apologize it's taken me a while to respond! First, no, you don't want to have "ice cream rock salt," which is very low-grade and not intended for eating/cooking. What you should get is Morton iodized salt, which is considered "table salt" and is totally fine. You should be able to find that in stores. (Rock salt is basically the mineral form of sodium chloride, also referred to as table salt.) It is something that could use further explanation in our book. Next edition!
Incidentally, iodine can also be found in seaweed, kelp, seafood, and eggs. (It’s also in some vegetables, but only if grown in iodine-rich soils.) So if you are eating some of these foods, you likely don’t need to worry too much about getting iodine from salt, and you can also use sea salt.
What are the type of food or supplements should I take for pregnancy again? Please help, I will try anything..
Hi, Adriabold -
See some of my other blog posts for information, such as http://fertilekitchen.blogspot.com/2011/01/fertility-diet-and-fresh-start.html. Also, our book outlines a specific fertility diet backed by research.
I know it's a hard journey! I wish you all the best! Cindy
Congratulations! This is the great things. Thanks to giving the time to share such a nice information.
